EMPIRE: The Deck Building Strategy Game App Reviews

Great suprise for a great game!

This game has been a big surprise for me as a turn-based strategy games fan. It is a pretty good one and it´s the kind of game youll come back often in order to improve your previous performances! It´s a mix of micro-management, card based strategy game and tiles-game combat system.

Innovative gameplay

Really love the gameplay. Pretty hard, but fun!

Very Good, but crashes often

Good Balance and re-playability, but crashes often and even sometimes Game in Progress is lost.

Excellent

So I went out on a limb to buy this even though I couldnt see any reviews. However from the description and screen shots I decided to make the purchase anyway. Its worth the money so far and an easy 3/5. Combines various role playing and strategic elements. Use of cards is fun. The art looks good and game is simple to learn. With tutorial. There is a lot of potential here, but the game is at the same time lacking things. A one player story mode, a difficulty setting and online play. If those things were somehow worked in that would be great. With an update this is an easy 5/5. For the amount of money it costs you should support this game then push for updates. No in app purchases.

fun but "deck building" is tacked on

Game has very simple city-building leading up to tactical battles which you can ONLY control with the cards youve won from past battles. (Your units otherwise march mindlessly to the right.) Enemy has functionally identical units but no cards or AI. Tutorial is bad, doesnt even teach basic strategy such as keeping units and odd number of spaces from enemy (for first strike).

Random, mindless, nonsense

This barely qualifies as a game. Your decisions are limited to where you want to explore/settle/attack, what city upgrades you build (from an extremely limited set of choices), and what cards you play in combat (and add to your hand if you win). This wouldnt be so bad if you could at least choose one more thing: unit deployment before a battle. Without that this game has barely more strategy than snakes an ladders. On top of that, if you dont win a lot of combat early in the game you enter a death spiral because each unit you lose adds Strife to your combat deck which further reduces your card choices making you less and less effective over time.

Neat ideas but misses the mark

This game is a neat idea but the incentives are all wrong. I ended up with an 1100 point game, the #5 highest score on the leader board and only stopped that game out of boredom. The cards become more powerful as you have fewer units. I got that score with an army of one cavalry unit. I purged my deck of all the so called unique cards which just dilute it. Basically Im saying this game at v1 was broken and I dont see much to suggest its really any better at v2.

Poorly executed

This game has some good ideas, but is poorly executed and ends up being tedious and mundane. It really lacks any sort of push to keep playing.

Simple, and highly addictive.

I call this a 4X-lite game, but its still got quite a bit of depth. It really boils a 4X strategy game down to its essentials, making it simple to learn, but still have that one-more-turn addictiveness in it. An excellent and thoughtful game that can be played in short bursts.

Interesting

Very fun and challenging game. Wish I could have more army units but thats what makes it hard.

great concept but too shallow and frustrating

This game starts off being a great idea, but after a few replays falls short of what could be a more dynamic game. What happens is, once you start building up a decent deck, the enemies spawn to the point of that you get so overwhelmed by the enemy that the game turns into being a frustration instead of what could have been an addictive build up your deck and army game. Also, the tactical aspect of the game is so difficult to plan out your moves without the cards is hard to figure, now add in the cards and make it even more harder. Very over rated in my opinion. If your into frustration, this games for you.

Nô title

Not so great actually...lack of deepness and versatility.

面白いのに残念。

victory point150辺りから頻繁に落ちる上データが消える。 ゲームは文句なく面白い。 please bug fixes i using iphone 5C

Excellent and fast paced strategy game

Very interesting game where the concept is to survive until the unavoidable victory of the "disease".

Quite good game

I liked this game a lot! Its quite fun, and challenging at times, though it could become a bit repeating. If there would be more variations in battle cards and more control over the deck in general, that have been a really excellent game!

Surprinsgly deep and immersive.

Version 1.1 is now out and really takes advantage of what an awesome game EMPIRE is. The new class system is awesome and adds some variability to the game. Plenty of great updates to keep you playing for days. Thank you for an awesome update!!! About version 1.0: "Easily one of the best 4X games I have played on iOS. Since I have picked this game up early this week I have not been able to put it down. The in between battles can be a bit slow, but its a strategy game so its to be expected. The player is faced with a ton of choices, each will have a big impact on how long you last. You will die, thats for sure, but each time I find myself living just a little longer. Word on the developers blog is that they have big plans for future updates too, and many additions coming in the coming weeks. The model of this game can truly be something amazing if the develop keeps the content coming and works to fine tune it. Back to playing now!"

Update

The update done went and made this game better than it already was! :-)))

Pretty good.

I find the difficulty level pretty up there. Perhaps I missed something in the tutorial...

Really fun

Takes a little to learn, but then its a really deep and fun game that youll play for a long time

Update is FANTASTIC!!

Great game and a great update! Keep up the good work!
