“Empire is so tight it squeaks, and I suspect it’s the best game I’ve played this year.” - pockettactics.com – 10/10

"This is the iPad game of the year. Highly polished." - ipadboardgames.org - 9/10

“With Empire, Burgun and co. strip back the 4X genre to its fundamental parts, add a few twists of their own, and then chuck in some deck-building strategy for fun.” - pocketgamer.co.uk – 8/10

The barbarous tribes who fought amongst themselves for so many aeons are at last able to come together to found a wondrous civilization. Is yours the first of its kind in this world, or one of many? No man knows, but what all men know is that their Empire must not only survive, but flourish!

The world is full of terrible horrors, however, and they will wear away at your Empire from all sides. Natural resources have become more scarce. And perhaps worst of all, your powerful Empire has grown heavy and full of internal strife with its age. How long can you stand the pressures of survival before your Empire finally comes crumbling back down into the desolated earth from which it grew?

--

EMPIRE introduces the worlds first "Deck-Building 4X Strategy Game". EMPIRE is a quick, easy-to-learn yet difficult to master strategy/tactics game. FEATURES:

- Choose from 3 unique emperors to play, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

- Procedurally generated worlds mean that no two games will be alike. Will you find valuable mountains to mine military materials from? Food-rich forests that will grow your Empire quickly?

- A unique take on the deck building mechanism similar to those in Dominion, Puzzle Strike or Ascension. Your deck grows during the game, and it fills with both useful Action Cards, powerful Spell Cards, -- and also totally useless Strife Cards. Managing your deck is an important part of staying strong!

- Dozens of interesting tactical cards featuring excellent art from concept artist Gilles Ketting.

- A unique grid based tactical combat system. Use your Action and Spell cards to get the upper hand and destroy the enemy forces!

- Unlike traditional 4X strategy games which not only take hours, but tend to become slow and boring late game, EMPIRE is a quick, elegant knife-fight of a game.

- Fantastic graphics
- Gather resources and boost your economy
- Create a massive army and defend your fortress

- Designed by indie game design superstar Keith Burgun, creator of 100 Rogues.

We have tons of plans for the game in terms of future content additions, balance patches, extra game modes, and other support.

Pros and cons of EMPIRE: The Deck Building Strategy Game app for iPhone and iPad

EMPIRE: The Deck Building Strategy Game app good for

This game has been a big surprise for me as a turn-based strategy games fan. It is a pretty good one and it´s the kind of game youll come back often in order to improve your previous performances! It´s a mix of micro-management, card based strategy game and tiles-game combat system.
Good Balance and re-playability, but crashes often and even sometimes Game in Progress is lost.
I call this a 4X-lite game, but its still got quite a bit of depth. It really boils a 4X strategy game down to its essentials, making it simple to learn, but still have that one-more-turn addictiveness in it. An excellent and thoughtful game that can be played in short bursts.
Very fun and challenging game. Wish I could have more army units but thats what makes it hard.
Very interesting game where the concept is to survive until the unavoidable victory of the "disease".
I liked this game a lot! Its quite fun, and challenging at times, though it could become a bit repeating. If there would be more variations in battle cards and more control over the deck in general, that have been a really excellent game!

Some bad moments

This barely qualifies as a game. Your decisions are limited to where you want to explore/settle/attack, what city upgrades you build (from an extremely limited set of choices), and what cards you play in combat (and add to your hand if you win). This wouldnt be so bad if you could at least choose one more thing: unit deployment before a battle. Without that this game has barely more strategy than snakes an ladders. On top of that, if you dont win a lot of combat early in the game you enter a death spiral because each unit you lose adds Strife to your combat deck which further reduces your card choices making you less and less effective over time.
This game is a neat idea but the incentives are all wrong. I ended up with an 1100 point game, the #5 highest score on the leader board and only stopped that game out of boredom. The cards become more powerful as you have fewer units. I got that score with an army of one cavalry unit. I purged my deck of all the so called unique cards which just dilute it. Basically Im saying this game at v1 was broken and I dont see much to suggest its really any better at v2.
This game has some good ideas, but is poorly executed and ends up being tedious and mundane. It really lacks any sort of push to keep playing.
This game starts off being a great idea, but after a few replays falls short of what could be a more dynamic game. What happens is, once you start building up a decent deck, the enemies spawn to the point of that you get so overwhelmed by the enemy that the game turns into being a frustration instead of what could have been an addictive build up your deck and army game. Also, the tactical aspect of the game is so difficult to plan out your moves without the cards is hard to figure, now add in the cards and make it even more harder. Very over rated in my opinion. If your into frustration, this games for you.
Version 1.1 is now out and really takes advantage of what an awesome game EMPIRE is. The new class system is awesome and adds some variability to the game. Plenty of great updates to keep you playing for days. Thank you for an awesome update!!! About version 1.0: "Easily one of the best 4X games I have played on iOS. Since I have picked this game up early this week I have not been able to put it down. The in between battles can be a bit slow, but its a strategy game so its to be expected. The player is faced with a ton of choices, each will have a big impact on how long you last. You will die, thats for sure, but each time I find myself living just a little longer. Word on the developers blog is that they have big plans for future updates too, and many additions coming in the coming weeks. The model of this game can truly be something amazing if the develop keeps the content coming and works to fine tune it. Back to playing now!"
The update done went and made this game better than it already was! :-)))
